A new flag at Mission Hospital is calling attention to the impact of local donors.donate life flag made by johnin
On Tuesday, a "Donate Life" flag raising ceremony was held outside the hospital. It's part of a national initiative to honor donors and recipients, whose lives have been affected by organ, eye and tissue donation.
Event organizers said the flag is a reminder that donors are, in fact, lifesavers.
"An organ donor can save up to eight lives, and the gift of eye and tissue donation can save and enhance the lives of 50 people," Sarah Briggs, of Lifeshare of the Carolinas, told News 13. "So, there are many lives that can be impacted through the legacy that a donor gives."
The flag will fly near the main entrance of Mission Hospital throughout the month of April.
