One of my favourite assignments is being invited by the Royal Navy to photograph the homecoming of a ship after months of deployment somewhere around the world.
The day is always a colourful celebration as family, friends and loved ones of the crew line the quayside of Portsmouth naval base armed with banners, flags and bunting. With a Royal Marine band in attendance it’s difficult not to get swept up in the emotion as the ship docks and the tearful reunions take place.
That was then. Now, with a second lockdown in place, HMS Dragon, a type 45 destroyer was returning from months in the Black Sea as part of Oeration Sea Guardian.
