Sons of Norway did Wednesday what they’ve done for the last 37 years, celebrating Syttende Mai, the 17th of May - their Constitution Day - with the raising of the Norwegian flag in front of San Bernardino City Hall.

May 17, 2017 marks the 203rd anniversary of Norway’s Constitution Day.

The gathering of Norwegians at City Hall Plaza, most of them members of Soldalen Lodge 6-67 in San Bernardino which meets in Redlands, raised the Norwegian flag following a welcome by Dave Leffler, Soldalen Lodge president.

Following the Pledge of Allegiance, introduction of guests included San Bernardino Mayor Carey Davis and Honorary Consul of Norway, H. Michael Soroy from the Royal Norwegian Consulate in Los Angeles.

A history of the Norwegian flag was presented by Melanie Hendrickson before the singing of their national song, “La Oss Leve for Hverandre.”

Dianne Burgeson, of Redlands, whose mother, Eva Burgeson, was part of the flag-raising 30 years ago, said her mother was one of the original Norwegian immigrants from Minnesota to Redlands.
